Redskins' Chris Cooley quietly asking for the ball
Tight end isn't exactly known as a diva position. You've got a few talkers -- Jeremy Shockey and Kellen Winslow come to mind -- but they are nothing like their teammates split out wide. Redskins tight end Chris Cooley
wants the ball to come his way more often. And, true to form, he's asking without a raised voice.
"I had a lot of opportunities where I was open," Cooley told the Washington Post. "It's frustrating for me to run routes and be open, but on a lot of those routes Santana [Moss] made plays. We had one that could have been a big play and the ball didn't quite get to me. So I had a lot of opportunities in the game plan and it just didn't work out.
"I'm not going to go back and complain to anyone about not catching balls. I might give a persuasive nudge."
Cooley said this on Wednesday, three days after he was targeted a season-low four times against Tampa Bay. He finished the game with 22 yards on just two catches and didn't touch the ball until the fourth quarter. Of course, he's been targeted 101 times this season, the most of any tight end.
Fantasy Analysis:
The squeaky wheel always gets the grease in these situations. Remember how much of a bust Greg Jennings was considered for the first half of the season? Then, before the Miami game in week six, he talked about how he should get more looks. Since then, he's been one of the best wide receivers in fantasy. Cooley should see an uptick in his production, beginning this week against the Dallas Cowboys.
