Giants' Steve Smith, Mario Manningham injured Monday night
New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith
returned to the field Monday after four weeks off, only to see his body betray him again less than three quarters in. Smith strained a hamstring on his only catch of the night, a 12-yarder on which he was dragged down from behind by a linebacker. According to the New York Post's Paul Schwartz, "There doesn't seem to be any way that Smith will recover in time to face the Eagles." Smith described his newest injury as "really frustrating."
Smith had been joined on the inactive list by Hakeem Nicks in recent weeks, and while he made it through this game, Mario Manningham
did not. He suffered a hip flexor injury during the second quarter and missed the rest of the game. While he may have a better chance than Smith to play Sunday, his status for that game is currently uncertain.
Fantasy Analysis:
The buzz seems to signal that Smith will be out for at least one week. Even if he can return in week 16, do you really want to start a wideout with a low ceiling coming off a hamstring injury in your championship matchup? Feel free to drop him if you need the roster spot. We'll see how Manningham progresses during the week. If he can't play, Derek Hagan
would likely start for the Giants, but Nicks, who looked fine last night, should see oodles of targets. He's a top-10 option, especially if Asante Samuel is sidelined again.
