Cowboys head coach says Tashard Choice has earned expanded offensive role
Despite a rather forgettable 2010 so far, Tashard Choice
went off for 100 yards on 19 carries Sunday. Those are more yards and more carries than he had entering the game, and it's apparently too good for interim head coach Jason Garrett to ignore. He said Tuesday that Choice has earned an expanded role in the Cowboys' offense. But he also said Choice and Marion Barber
, who is currently on the mend because of a calf injury, are very similar runners, thus hinting that Choice may not have much of a role once Barber returns.
"Marion is probably a more physical runner inside, but Tashard is a very good inside runner as well," Garrett told the San Antonio Express-News. "In general, they're both good runners. They both block well, and they both catch the ball well out of the backfield. They're fairly similar in their strengths."
Fantasy Analysis:
We'll have to see where Barber is in his rehab later in the week, but I don't think he'll play against Philadelphia on Sunday night. But when he does come back, it sounds like it will cause Choice's work to be dramatically decreased. For this week, I would rather have Felix Jones
than Choice. it's a very close decision, especially because Choice is a much better bet to score. But I like Jones' explosiveness, his impact in the passing game and the fact that he's going to get more touches -- Jones got 25 touches against the Colts; Choice got 19. But each are probably good flex plays for week 14.
