UPDATE: 49ers' Frank Gore has fractured hip, season over
Update: Gore was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. We'll see him next year.
If you watched the Monday night game, you saw San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore get off to a good start, gaining 43 yards on his first four carries. But he had just one carry for the rest of the night, in between a visit to the locker room and a long night spent on the sidelines. Why? According to Mindi Bach of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, Gore fractured his right hip during the game. NFL.com's Jason La Canfora tweeted that the injury will cause Gore to miss the rest of this season. Brian Westbrook, who ran for 136 yards and a score in relief of Gore, will now have to take on a much larger role. Anthony Dixon
will also participate. Through 11 games, Gore accumulated 1,305 yards from scrimmage -- 853 rushing -- and five total touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
Running backs have stayed relatively healthy this season, but this is tough news. Gore was on crutches after the game. Go pick up Westbrook if you need RB help. Dixon is a decent add as he might steal some goal-line carries. He had 14 carries against the Cardinals, but most came in garbage time. The 49ers will visit the Packers this week, which is not a good time to start either back. The workload split between the two is kind of uncertain. But Westbrook should be the more popular pickup.
