UPDATE: No suspension for Texans' Andre Johnson
Update: Johnson and Finnegan were each fined $25,000. Dunta Robinson, James Harrison: Your thoughts?
A Houston TV station is reporting that Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson
will only be fined, not suspended, for fighting with Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan on Sunday. The two players, who have been feuding since last season, had been jostling with each other all day. Then with about 8 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the two grabbed and pulled off each other's helmets. As the tussle continued, Johnson threw at least two roundhouse punches to the head, including one while Finnegan was on the ground with his back to the upright receiver. As it stands, Johnson will likely be active for Thursday night's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fantasy Analysis:
First, this is a huge break for Johnson's fantasy owners. I'm just not sure how Johnson is not suspended for any period of time after throwing multiple punches to Finnegan's head. Finnegan should be suspended as well but will not be now. Or at least he shouldn't be, because Johnson was much more the aggressor during the fight. This is a terribly weak move by the NFL. Speculation on inside reasons as to why Johnson is still available to play will run wild, the king of them probably being that the league wanted Johnson present in a game on its network this week. I really don't care what explanation is given; this is absolutely stunning news and horribly pathetic discipline from the NFL. Obviously, Johnson is a must start in all leagues.
