Vikings' Peterson injures ankle
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson
injured his right ankle on a short run during the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. Reports indicated he should return to the game but he did not play for the remainder of the game. Peterson finished with six carries for 36 yards and a touchdown, as well as one reception for 34 yards. Vikings interim head coach Leslie Frazier told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that Peterson would be re-evaluated on Monday. Peterson told 1500ESPN.com that his ankle "started throbbing" after the injury. Currently, there is no timetable for his return and no report on the seriousness of the injury.
Fantasy Analysis:
Peterson is obviously one the best players in football and a universally owned player in fantasy football. For AP owners, getting Toby Gerhart is a must right now and for all other teams, Gerhart is certainly worth consideration. The Vikings don't have a lot to play for right now so there's no reason to assume that he's dying to get back on the field as though they are making a playoff run. Not to suggest that Peterson doesn't care, but the team simply isn't playing for much at this stage. Gerhart had 22 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown while playing in place of Peterson. Gerhart is a tough runner and he may not break off many big plays, but he's definitely going to get a ton of touches if Peterson is out.
