Who's in and who's out of the early games in week 12
OK, kids. It's time to awaken from your turkey coma and get your game face on. It's the 12th Sunday of the NFL season, meaning we are just a couple of weeks away from the fantasy football playoffs. There are a lot of important lineup decisions that need to be made before the 1 p.m. games. So this post will be updated until kickoff with the latest injury updates and other news affecting the players who we hope will carry us to a victory today.
Brett Favre is playing hurt and now he'll be playing sick. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Favre has been ill all week and his symptoms have gotten worse throughout it. He could have a sinus infection, but will start today against the Redskins. He's no more than a below-average No. 2 QB in 12-team leagues.
According to ESPN, the Jags' hyphenated duo, Maurice Jones-Drew
and Mike Sims-Walker, are both active and will start in today's game against the New York Giants. MJD has been limited this week with an abdomen injury. The matchup is tough and he might have a few less touches than usual, but you've still got to start him. Sims-Walker is much, much more risky. He is dealing with a high ankle sprain and I don't think he'll play all that much.
Santana Moss
is active for the Redskins. But he has a hamstring injury and there is a certain amount of risk with starting him. I'd consider him a WR3 today.
Sidney Rice
is active for the Vikings as he continues to deal with pain in his surgically repaired hip. With Bernard Berrian out, Rice should see a lot of targets today against a poor Washington pass D.
The Carolina Panthers' official website states Jimmy Clausen will start today in Cleveland. Tony Pike will back him up. Brian St. Pierre is inactive. In other Panthers news, Jonathan Stewart
is active, but WILL NOT start. That role will go to Mike Goodson again. However, Stewart should see plenty of work. Both he and Goodson are iffy flex options today because we're just not sure who's going to get more playing time.
C.J. Spiller is inactive for the Bills. Fred Jackson will get as much work as he can handle today, but he may not find much room facing that ridiculously stout Pittsburgh run defense.
And now the rundown on the Browns' offense. Colt McCoy is inactive, so Jake Delhomme gets the start versus Carolina. Josh Cribbs and Ben Watson are both active, but will likely be limited. I'm sure you can safely avoid this group.
Donald Driver is active for the Packers' game at Atlanta. But he's not 100 percent, so James Jones is also worth a short in a good matchup.
Rusty Smith is the Titans' starting QB today -- we knew that. But Kerry Collins will be his primary backup today. That's a good sign and we may see him start next week.
As expected, Roddy White is active and starting for the Falcons. Um, I think he's a good start.
There are already a number of stellar players who have already been ruled out due to injury. That list includes Austin Collie, Brandon Marshall, Owen Daniels, Hakeem Nicks and Ryan Torain.
Fantasy Analysis:
Dealing with the inactives: Collie is back out of action because of reoccurring concussion symptoms. Blair White will see an increased number of snaps and considering that he scored two touchdowns last week, we know that Peyton Manning trusts him. The Chargers have a solid pass defense, but they will have their hands full with Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon. White is a nice WR3 this week. Marshall's sore hamstring prevented him from making the trip to Oakland, so Davone Bess and Brian Hartline will be the Dolphins' top two wideouts. Both are nice gambles in PPR leagues, and I think I would rather play Bess in standard leagues. He grew up in the Oakland area and I like the happy homecoming angle. Call it a hunch. Daniels is out again because of his hamstring injury. Joel Dreessen will get the start for the Texans and is a sneaky good play against a Titans defense that has struggled covering tight ends lately. Dreessen recorded more than 100 yards and a touchdown last week. With Nicks out for a few weeks, Mario Manningham becomes the No. 1 WR for the Giants. He is a great start today against that horrible Jaguars secondary. Derek Hagan is also worth a shot in deeper leagues as Steve Smith is also inactive. Torain just can't get over his own hamstring problem. Keiland Williams will start and is a low-end RB2 this week because of the amount of work he'll get versus the Vikings.
