Browns' Jake Delhomme gets starting nod against Panthers
The Cleveland Browns are turning back to Jake Delhomme. Not because they really want to, but because someone has to take the snaps for Colt McCoy
. Head coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday that McCoy has a high ankle sprain that will cause him to miss at least Sunday's game versus Carolina. Delhomme will get his first start since week one when he suffered his own high ankle sprain. His only other appearance this year was in relief of Seneca Wallace during week five. He aggravated the injury in that game. Wallace has fought off an ankle sprain as well and is reportedly healthy. But it's Delhomme who will start against his former team. Delhomme has completed 33 of 60 passes this season. He has tossed one touchdown and four interceptions.
Fantasy Analysis:
You can avoid this situation in fantasy. McCoy was playing decently, but even he wasn't that valuable outside of very deep, two-QB leagues. Expect McCoy to miss more than just this game. Sprains of the high ankle variety usually keep players inactive for a few weeks. All that means is Browns receivers, including tight end Ben Watson, are off limits. And you may want to look ahead to see what available defenses in your league play the Browns in future weeks (Carolina, Miami and Buffalo are their next three opponents).
