Redskins' Clinton Portis placed on injured reserve
After a positive MRI result on his groin Tuesday, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis
was hoping to play this week versus Minnesota. Two days later, the Redskins determined Portis won't play until next season. That's because the MRI also revealed a torn abdominal muscle, which will require season-ending surgery. The Redskins placed the nine-year veteran on injured reserve Wednesday, cutting short his second consecutive injury-plagued season.
Portis played in just five games this season because of his severe groin strain. He returned to action in week 11, only to emerge with this newest ailment. Portis played in just eight games last season because of a concussion. Portis is due $8.254 million in salary next season. He turns 30 years old in September.
Fantasy Analysis:
There's no way that the Redskins will hand out that kind of money for a deteriorating running back. Well, at least they SHOULDN'T; I'm confused with how the Redskins handle their money.
With Ryan Torain
still nursing a hamstring injury, Keiland Williams
is expected to start against the Vikings. James Davis
will be his backup. Given the perceived opportunity and the lack of healthy Washington RBs, Williams isn't a bad flex play this week. Plus, the Redskins face the Buccaneers, Cowboys and Jaguars in weeks 14-16. Depending on how Torain comes along, Williams may turn into a fantasy playoff surprise.
