Browns' Colt McCoy sprains ankle, possibly out next week

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy @ColtMcCoy sprained his left ankle this past Sunday in Cleveland's 24-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. McCoy is the third Cleveland quarterback to sprain his ankle to go along with Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. If McCoy is unable to play, Delhomme will start next week against his former team, the Carolina Panthers. McCoy had an MRI and other tests on Monday for his injured ankle which confirmed the ankle sprain. The injury occurred when McCoy was sacked in the second half. McCoy has a record of 2-3 as Cleveland's starter. Head coach Eric Mangini said that Delhomme "is back to 100 percent or back to 100 percent as much as anybody could be 100 percent." Delhomme signed with Cleveland this past offseason.

Fantasy Analysis:

McCoy hasn't had much of a fantasy impact this season, but he's been doing well enough for a rookie. The Browns need him to continue to develop for the future. He's passed for three TDs, three INTs and 975 yards; nothing to write home about but the Browns were 1-6 under Delhomme and Wallace, compared to 2-3 with McCoy. That's double the wins and half the losses, quite a dramatic contrast. Of course, much of that has to do with the play of running back Peyton Hillis, but it is what it is. Next season (if the Browns are able to bolster their wide receiving corps and possibly add a key offensive lineman to bolster their pass protection), this could be a dangerous team.
