Lions' Jahvid Best is not getting any healthier
As we get ready to enter December, playing in the NFL becomes a true grind. The bye weeks are over and there is little rest for the weary. This is especially notable for first-year players who may end up hitting the "rookie wall" before season's end. For Detroit Lions rookie running back Jahvid Best
, his wall has arrived in the form of two damaged feet. Best is trying to manage cases of turf toe on each foot, but it's clearly affecting his performance. He ran for two yards on three carries against the Cowboys. He added four receptions for 15 yards. It would seem that his health has reached a new low and head coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that assumption Monday. "He had a hard time," Schwartz said of Best. "It's a situation now where it's not trending up, it's actually trending the other way. ... I don't think he's going to be 100 percent the rest of the year." Schwartz said the plan was to limit Best's touches Sunday, but there hasn't been a thought of completely benching him for his own good.
Fantasy Analysis:
First, fantasy owners need to get Best out of their lineups. They should have done it already, I think everyone can clearly see now that the 2010 ride is over for Jahvid; his feet are just too much of a problem. Next, the Lions need to get Best out of harm's way. He is re-injuring himself on basically every play he's on the field. The Lions aren't going anywhere for another season and Best is clearly their future at running back. They should just roll with Maurice Morris or Jerome Felton or whoever else they can line up behind quarterback. But they are doing Best no favors by keeping him active on game days. With how he's regressing, I think Best's season will be officially ended soon. By the way, Morris received a team-high 10 carries Sunday. So, if you're looking for a Best replacement in an extremely deep league ...
