Redskins running game a mess -- more than usual
When it comes to the Redskins' running backs, head coach Mike Shanahan hasn't needed to deceive the masses per usual. The poor health of his RBs has left him with few options. That seems to be the case heading into week 12. Both Clinton Portis
and Ryan Torain
are both dinged up and aren't expected to play Sunday versus Minnesota. Shanahan said Monday that Torain is a "long shot" to suit up. He said Torain's hamstring, which has held him out of the past two games, is still sore and said the chances he doesn't play are "97 percent."
Portis aggravated his groin injury during Sunday's win at Tennessee. When asked if it's possible his season could be over, Portis said: "Is it possible? Anything is possible, bro, but who knows?. Gonna get an MRI [Monday] and we'll see. I'm hoping it'll be fine."
Fantasy Analysis:
We'll update Portis' status later in the week, but you should plan for the Keiland Williams
show this week. The Redskins promoted James Davis
from the practice squad Monday. His game-breaking ability makes him someone to watch, but Williams should get a healthy majority of the touches out of Washington's backfield. Minnesota's run defense isn't what it used to be, but it has been much better in the past three games. Plus, I think that D will play with more effort now that its coordinator is the head honcho. Williams is just a desperate flex play this week.
