UPDATE: Titans place Vince Young on injured reserve
That thumb injury that looked like it could keep Vince Young
out for the season officially will. The Titans placed their now-former starting quarterback on injured reserve Monday. He has a torn flexor tendon in his right thumb and will require season-ending surgery. He suffered the injury when he hit an opponent's helmet as he followed through on a pass during the third quarter of Sunday's overtime loss to Washington. Young left the field for a short time, but returned to warm up on the sidelines. However, head coach Jeff Fisher decided to stay with Rusty Smith at QB. Of course, that decision upset Young and a confrontation between Young and Fisher worthy of a demotion occurred after the game.
Fantasy Analysis:
I heard some pretty positive stuff about Kerry Collins last week, but I guess the plan is to hold him out for the next couple of games at least. Thus, welcome to the Rusty Smith era! Sound the trumpets! Seriously, this can't be good news for Nate Washington and Randy Moss. Granted, Moss' production can't possibly go down after his first two games in Tennessee. Chris Johnson remains an obvious must-start, but the lack of respect for Smith from NFL defenses will leave CJ2K facing eight-man boxes regularly once again. Oh, and if anything happens to Smith before Collins returns, the Titans signed Chris Simms on Monday.
