Titans' Vince Young no longer the starter

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young @VinceYoung is no longer the team's starting quarterback after tearing a tendon in his right thumb which may require surgery. But the other issue, which may be the actual underlying problem, is that after the game Young threw his jersey and shoulder pads into the stands while leaving the field. Witnesses verified seeing stadium personnel retrieving Young's equipment. Just minutes after that, Young walked quickly from the locker room to the players' parking lot wearing street clothes. Teammate Michael Griffin, who played with Young at the University of Texas, was able to flag down Young and they spoke. Young left and Griffin came back to the locker room and said "Well, I tried." Head coach Jeff Fisher and Young had a heated discussion in the locker room and he had this to say about the situation during the post-game press conference, "Clearly, that's no way to respond so we have some things we have to work out with him," Fisher said. "He may need surgery and if that's the case he's done for the year." When asked if Young talked to Fisher after the game he said, "Yes he did and that's between me and him and the team." Fisher went on to say that Young has lost the starting job because "some things that have to change".

Fantasy Analysis:

At some point, it has to be said that Vince Young may not have the emotional fortitude to play quarterback in the NFL while maintaining professional relationships with those he works for. Sure, it's easy for a fan like myself to say that when I have no idea how difficult it is but there are hundreds of people in the NFL who are able to work out this aspect of the game and not have breakdowns after games. Young is obligated by contract to talk to media and do all post-game activities, whether he likes it or not. Let's face it, Vince Young is a good but not great quarterback in the NFL. The Titans can win without him and have in the past. These sorts of actions are detrimental to the team. He has to be one of the leaders of the team. If he refuses that responsibility, what are the guys in the locker room supposed to think? Most of them would love to leave after a tough loss and not have to answer questions from the media. Who wants to discuss how you lost a game? In any case, rookie quarterback Rusty Smith is now the new starter in Tennessee as Kerry Collins is injured.
