Giants' Nicks out for three weeks

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is out for the next three weeks due swelling in his right leg. The injury is called compartment syndrome, which causes pain and swelling that compresses nerves and blood vessels. Nicks has already had surgery, a procedure called fasciotomy, on Monday afternoon. If left untreated or in very serious cases, compartment syndrome can lead to muscle and nerve damage. The injury occurred when Nicks took a low hit to the legs during the Giants' 27-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants are down to three wide receivers since teammate Steve Smith is likely out next week as well as he recovers from a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Fantasy Analysis:

The Giants receiving corps is hurting bad and losing Nicks here is devastating. Easily their best receiver (especially in fantasy football), Nicks has been a monster this year. The Giants are down to veteran receiver Mario Manningham, rookie Duke Calhoun and recently-acquired Derek Hagan. New York plays Jacksonville, Washington and Minnesota in the next three weeks which would have been very favorable matchups. But in this case, Manningham is the clear leader and will get a ton of reps in practice and the majority of targets in these games. New York has lost two straight games, both to divisional rivals Dallas and Philadelphia. They are currently one game behind the Eagles in the NFC East standings.
