Vikings fire coach Brad Childress
The Minnesota Vikings have fired head coach Brad Childress on Monday. The Vikings are currently 3-7 and have lost four of their last five. Last season, led by quarterback Brett Favre, the Vikings lost a tough game in the NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints. Expectations were high again in 2010, but Minnesota has failed to live up to those expectations. The team released the following statement: "The Minnesota Vikings have relieved Brad Childress of his head coaching duties. Leslie Frazier has been named Interim Head Coach and will serve in that capacity for the remainder of the season." The Vikings lost last night 31-3 to their divisional rival Green Bay Packers. Childress became head coach in 2006 after seven years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fantasy Analysis:
This is probably for the best in the long term but it's safe to say 2010 is a wash for the Minnesota Vikings. A fresh start and a clean slate could come in 2011. Childress is now gone, Favre could be retired (not that I'm holding my breath) and the Vikings still have a young nucleus on offense to build around. As rookie quarterback Sam Bradford has shown, not all rookie QBs are built equally and the Vikings could land someone and be very competitive in a year or two. Childress was brought in at a time when the Vikings were having scandal after scandal and it was thought Childress could instill discipline and a new attitude to Minnesota. That time has obviously come and gone.
