Brian St. Pierre is the Panthers' starting quarterback

OK, now this is just getting sad. Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox announced Thursday that Brian St. Pierre will start at quarterback Sunday in Baltimore. He was just promoted from the team's practice squad on Tuesday to give the Panthers some depth since Jimmy Clausen @JimmyClausen will likely miss the game due to a concussion. Tony Pike is expected to be the backup QB. St. Pierre, 30, has thrown just five passes in his NFL career, four of which came last season with Arizona. He didn't play in the league from 2006 through 2008.

Fantasy Analysis:

Darin Gantt, Panthers beat writer for the Rock Hill Herald, summed up the move perfectly on his Twitter account: "This move is impossible to justify," he wrote. "Fox offered 'it is what it is.' Seen a lot of crazy stuff here over the years. Nothing quite like this." Pike was expected to get the start as late as yesterday and he seemed to be the obvious choice after he replaced Clausen in week nine. Then this happened. In other Panthers news, running backs Jonathan Stewart @Jonathanstewar1 and Tyrell Sutton remained out of practice again Thursday. This essentially means two fourth-stringers, St. Pierre and Mike Goodson @GoodNplenty33, will start at QB and RB against the Ravens. Um, I think I would start that defense in week 11. What does this do for Steve Smith's fantasy value? Given his production in the past two games without Matt Moore, do you really care? It's obvious John Fox doesn't; he just really wants out of Carolina.
