Troy Smith is the 49ers' starting QB
Coming off a surprising 356-yard performance during Sunday's overtime win versus St. Louis, Troy Smith has earned himself at least one more start for the 49ers. Head coach Mike Singletary made the advancement Monday. While Alex Smith has been medically cleared to play after his shoulder injury, Singletary wants to stay with Troy Smith, who is 2-0 as his starter. "I just feel our team understands that I'm going to go with the guy that is winning right now," Singletary said. "I'm going to go with the guy that has the hot hand ... that has made the difference in the past two weeks."
Fantasy Analysis:
Singletary said he's approaching his QB situation on a week-to-week basis, but if Troy Smith keeps up his recent play, there will be no situation; he will become the unquestioned starter. Troy Smith hasn't turned the ball over in two games whereas Alex Smith has thrown the same number of interceptions and touchdowns in seven games. Despite yesterday's high yardage output, Smith is viable in two-QB leagues only, especially with the bye weeks in the past. He was able to get the ball to Vernon Davis
against the Rams and threw a touchdown to Michael Crabtree
for the second consecutive game, so it looks like the change won't negatively affect their fantasy values.
