Giants' Steve Smith expected to be out for at least more two games
The chest injury that New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith
suffered during Thursday's practice will keep him inactive on game days for the rest of November at the very least, according to a source close to the situation. Smith has a partially torn pectoral muscle, which he will try to heal through rehab. However, he is no guarantee to return at the start of December. He could be out up to a month or more, according to the source, depending on how Smith handles the pain and doctor evaluations. Smith, who didn't play Sunday versus the Cowboys, is second on the team in yards and receptions.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Giants also lost Smith's initial replacement, Ramses Barden
, to a severe leg injury that will end his season. So now rookie Duke Calhoun moves into the team's No. 3 WR role. Mario Manningham
receives the biggest upgrade because of this news. Even against Dallas' poor pass defense, I don't think it's a coincidence that Manningham turned in his best fantasy day of 2010 on Sunday -- 10 catches for 91 yards and a score. He'll remain in the Giants' starting lineup and is a quality play in three-WR leagues, especially with home games against Jacksonville and Washington coming up in the next few weeks.
