Patriots place Stephen Gostkowski on injured reserve

I don't think I've written anything here that centered around a kicker and I think it's pretty obvious why. Kickers are the most unpredictable players in fantasy, week in and week out. You want an accurate kicker in a good offense -- but not too good because that will limit his attempts. It's a complete crapshoot, but one of the best fantasy kickers through the past couple of seasons is done for the year. The Patriots ended Stephen Gostkowski's season Wednesday, placing him on injured reserve because of a what was initially thought to be a quad injury turned out to be more serious. Gostkowski, who was having a down season by his standards, has been one of the top fantasy kickers since 2007. He led all kickers in fantasy points in 2008 and was successful on 87.3 percent of his tries from 2007-09. Recently signed Shayne Graham could be the Pats' kicker for the rest of the season if he converts as well as Gostkowski.

Fantasy Analysis:

I guess Graham's not a bad fantasy option, but I can't have any confidence in that statement. Just pick up a kicker each week in a good situation -- nice offense versus OK defense is how I see it -- and move on. Don't look at kicker rankings or overanalyze the matchup. Pick one and move on to worrying about more important spots.
