Source: Jets' Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson to split carries evenly

For the season, New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson holds about a 60-40 edge in carries over Shonn Greene -- 599 to 391, respectively. In the past four games, the margin has widened as Tomlinson got 67 carries to Greene's 35. But NFL.com's Jason La Canfora expects the two backs to see an equal amount of work in the second half of the season. "Keep an eye on the Jets' running game down the stretch," Canfora wrote. "The sense I got from a member of the front office is that Shonn Greene and Tomlinson could begin to see a more balanced role." Canfora points to an inverse trend in their yards per carry averages over the past four games as evidence that the Jets will give Tomlinson more time to rest down the stretch. Tomlinson is averaging 3.85 yards per carry during the span; Greene is averaging 4.8 yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

A full yard per carry is quite a difference over four games. But don't put too much stock into this report. Greene remains a decent buy-low option and I would certainly sell high on Tomlinson, but I would still like to see the Jets give Greene more than 10 carries -- something that hasn't happened in the past three games -- before I go buying. It also should be noted that while the Jets will continue to be a run-dominated team, they have the third-toughest schedule for running backs during fantasy playoff weeks 14, 15 and 16, according to FFToolbox's strength of schedule.
