Cardinals' Beanie Wells having allergic reaction to injection in knee
Arizona Cardinals running back Chris "Beanie" Wells had an allergic reaction to a medical injection in his injured right knee. Due to this adverse reaction, Wells has been limited in practice this week. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Wells' allergic reaction occurred from a shot of Orthovisc. His knee began to swell immediately and is still swollen as of Thursday. This is the same knee that Wells secretly had surgery on in the preseason and which cost him to miss the first two games of the season. When asked, Wells said he had no idea he was allergic to the medication. Orthovisc is a commonly used lubrication medication for sore knees. Whisenhunt added that Wells' knee improved for Thursday but he needs to see more from his running back during Friday's practice before he feels comfortable playing Wells this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings on the road.
Fantasy Analysis:
Wells has had a quiet season thus far, but began to play a bit better for fantasy purposes the past two weeks. With 128 total yards and two scores in those two games, he's improved. For owners, Wells is likely a bench player and if necessary a fill-in for bye week players and injuries. The Cardinals offense has struggled to establish consistency under rookie quarterback Max Hall and starter Derek Anderson. In spite of those struggles, the Cardinals are still firmly in the mix to win the NFC but the division is extremely competition with only two games seperating the Seahawks in first and the 49ers in last place.
