49ers' Vernon Davis says injured ankle is fine
San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis
couldn't play at all in the second half of the his team's victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. That's because of an injury to his ankle in the second quarter, the same ankle that limited him during the practice week. But Davis said Tuesday that his ankle is OK, so much so that he plans to do some work and run some routes during the Niners' bye week. He sounds like a man who will be playing in week 10 against the St. Louis Rams. Davis had just one reception for 12 yards in London. He leads the 49ers in receiving yards and touchdowns this year. After getting off to a slow start, Davis has scored in four of his past five games and before week nine's injury-shortened effort, he was averaging about 12 fantasy points per week over the past month.
Fantasy Analysis:
We still don't really know how Davis' fantasy stock is impacted with Troy Smith under center. We may find out for sure in week 10. Head coach Mike Singletary said today that Smith is his starting quarterback for the St. Louis game right now. Of course, that depends on how well Alex Smith's separated shoulder heals over the next 10 days or so. Regardless, Davis should remain in your lineups for as long as he's in the Niners' come every Sunday. Except this one, that is.
