Redskins running short on running backs
And this has nothing to do with Larry Johnson or Willie Parker. If the Washington Redskins had to play this week -- they don't -- Keiland Williams
appears to be the only man in their current backfield who is relatively healthy. Ryan Torain
suffered a hamstring injury Sunday and head coach Mike Shanahan isn't exactly sure when Torain will play again.
"The MRI on Torain was good [news]," Shanahan said. "So there wasn't a tear. Does that mean he'll be able to go next Monday? I'm hoping so."
Clinton Portis
, who has missed the past four carries with a groin injury, was on the practice field Tuesday, participating in a handful of plays and making a few cuts. Shanahan said he expects Portis to be "full speed" by week 10's Monday night game versus Philadelphia, but he thinks it will take a couple of weeks for him to get back into football shape.
Also, running back Chad Simpson was inactive for the Detroit Lions game because of a bum hamstring.
Fantasy Analysis:
First, deep leaguers should go pick up Williams. I would say the odds of Torain playing next week are less than 50-50, but we'll have a better estimate in the next 7-10 days. If he is out, Williams would stand to get the majority of the carries with everyone else with a pair of legs on this team injured. It's nice to hear Portis making progress, but you shouldn't expect him to be back into the fold before week 12. Yet, when he does return, I'm not sure what the 'Skins will do with Torain, who has played well in his absence. This could turn into a dreadful committee for the final month of the season.
