Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha has high ankle sprain
The duty of guarding Dwayne Bowe
this Sunday will probably have to go to someone other than Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The shutdown corner is unlikely to play in week nine because of a high ankle sprain. Asomugha suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Oakland's 33-3 win over Seattle. He had an MRI done on the ankle Monday, which revealed the sprain. However, head coach Tom Cable remained noncommittal about Asomugha's status for the Kansas City battle.
"We're doing all the tests and everything so we know exactly what's going on," Cable said. "It just appears to be an ankle sprain. How long that means ... We won't know here for about 48 hours."
Asomugha held the recently hot Mike Williams without a catch before departing Sunday.
Fantasy Analysis:
Cable may not want to say anything, but these types of sprains need at least a few weeks to heal. You can expect Asomugha to be out of action until after the Raiders' week 10 bye at the earliest. Oakland will have to depend on Stanford Routt, Chris Johnson and Jeremy Ware to fill in for Nnamdi. That's good news for Bowe and the other No. 1 wideouts scheduled to face the Raiders soon (Hines Ward/Mike Wallace and Brandon Marshall through week 12).
