Who's in and who's out of the early games for week 8?
Happy Halloween, everyone! However, it won't be a happy day for half of you and hopefully you don't lose your matchup because you left an inactive player in your lineup. To make sure, keep checking back on this post until the 1 p.m. Eastern kickoffs for injury updates on Donovan McNabb
, Vernon Davis
, Steven Jackson
, Chris Cooley
and others.
Steven Jackson is active. He had a number of pins placed into a finger on his left hand and was forced to miss some practices. ESPN's Chris Mortensen says there is some "lingering doubt within the organization" on how much Jackson can play today because he is only six days removed from surgery. But he's played through much worse. I expect him to have another 100 total yards at least versus the Panthers.
Vernon Davis is active despite an ankle injury. He's a must-start, even with Troy Smith at QB for the Niners.
Chris Cooley and Donovan McNabb are both ready to roll. Both were listed as questionable, as is custom for the Redskins. Both should have very stellar fantasy days against the Lions.
The Broncos' Eddie Royal will play today despite a groin injury. His production has been too low recently to consider him to be anything more than a No. 4 WR in deep leagues.
Knowshon Moreno will start. He had another hamstring scare during the week, but he was not even on Friday's injury report. Field conditions are reportedly messy in London, which isn't great for Moreno, but he should get 15-20 touches against the 49ers. He's a low-end No. 2 RB today.
Donald Driver will play, but his quad injury has really slowed him down lately. He's not a great start against the Jets.
Carson Palmer will start for the Bengals after a hip ailment forced him to miss some practice time. The Dolphins' pass defense can definitely be exploited and Carson has the weapons to do it. He won't throw for 400 yards again, but another good game is probably in store.
David Garrard is back in the Jaguars' lineup after missing a game due to a concussion. He is a decent-but-desperate start against the Cowboys on the road.
Players who have already been ruled out for Halloween 2010 include the Saints' Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas, DeAngelo Williams
, Louis Murphy, Alex Smith, Tony Romo, Clinton Portis and Fred Taylor.
Fantasy Analysis:
Dealing with the inactives: While there seems to be some positive signs pointing to Reggie Bush's return -- he tried to practice earlier this week -- Thomas remains in neutral. Chris Ivory and Ladell Betts will continue to fill in, but neither of them are confident plays against the Steelers. The biggest new name on the inactives list is DeAngelo Williams. That means Jonathan Stewart should get at least 20 touches against the Rams. Get him in your lineup if you have him. Louis Murphy has a bruised lung that will keep him out today and maybe a game or two going forward. Zach Miller remains the only reliable fantasy option in the Raiders' passing attack. However, he is listed as questionable today with a foot injury. He did go through limited practice all week. Alex Smith is out for 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder. Troy Smith will start in his place today in London. It'll be interesting to see how he impacts the fantasy values of Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree and Frank Gore. Tony Romo is most likely done for the season with a broken collarbone. Jon Kitna will start against the Jaguars today and, considering his weapons and the matchup, isn't a horrible play if you need a QB. Clinton Portis remains out, so Ryan Torain is a fantastic start today against Detroit. Fred Taylor is still M.I.A. because of a foot injury. BenJarvus Green-Ellis is the best bet for a touchdown, but I don't think that Patriots backfield is going to get a lot done today against Minnesota.
