Update: Panthers' Williams out
Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams
' status has teetered between will he play or won't he play all week, but the Panthers have ruled Williams will not play this Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. Williams did not make the trip to St. Louis. He injured his foot last week. Backup Jonathan Stewart will get the start in Williams' absence. But both backs have struggled as they only have two touchdowns between them. Considering the expectations leading up to the season, many considered the backfield duo would've exceeded their current statistics. Third-down running back Mike Goodson should also see extra playing time behing Stewart.
Fantasy Analysis:
Williams definitely could use a week off to get his mind right for the rest of the season. Carolina's offense has been anemic and inconsistent to say the least. Their major strength last season, their rushing attack, has been neutralized. For Williams owners, you can't cut him and in all likelihood, it'll be tough to find a trading partner. I would recommend trading him for a sleeper candidate at running back, like LeGarrette Blount as an example. I realize that's a rash move to make mid-season, but we're working under the assumption that Williams just never gets it going. At least a player like Blount provides an upside that can improve your team.
