Panthers' DeAngelo Williams listed as day-to-day
Carolina Panthers head coach said his running back DeAngelo Williams
' foot injury is considered day-to-day. There is no timetable for his return. Williams went down with injury this past Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers and was in obvious pain. Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald feels that if Williams can't practice on Friday then he won't play this week. Williams has yet to break 100 rushing yards in a game as Carolina has struggled offensively all season. Backup running backs Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson would fill-in for Williams if he cannot play.
Fantasy Analysis:
Whether he plays or not, it's probably best for fantasy owners to sit Williams. How quickly we forget that just two seasons ago Williams was the best fantasy running back in the game. Here in 2010, he's quickly faded into a liability on fantasy rosters. Carolina has reinserted Matt Moore into the starting role at QB. While they did manage a comeback victory against the San Francisco 49ers this past weekend, it's only the 49ers. On the bright side, wide receiver David Gettis took some of the pressure off the offense by snagging eight catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns. If the Panthers are able to maintain something close to that level of production from their receivers, it'll definitely work to open things up for their running game. And if that happens, Williams, when healthy, will be able to have take a handoff without 8 or 9 guys in the box. Lots a lot of if's though.
