Shocker: Vikings' Brett Favre wants to play Sunday

In a press conference that was dissected more for Brett Favre's comments about his head coach than his own health, The Minnesota Vikings quarterback told the media Wednesday that he will try to play against the New England Patriots in week eight. He doesn't know if his body will give him the chance, but he's banking on it. Doctors told Favre that he can't make his fractured left ankle any worse and that if he wants to play, it comes down to how he handles the pain. "I've always had a knack for healing, I think, quicker than maybe most people," Favre said. "And mentally ... I know that I've been able to play with different types of injuries that most people probably wouldn't have attempted. "I want to play, and I want to help this team win. I owe that to the guys. I owe that to myself."

Fantasy Analysis:

Brett Favre, maybe the greatest competitor football has ever known will "try" to play. But of course! Favre didn't practice Wednesday. His foot remains in a walking boot and it's unlikely that he will practice at all during the week. But it sounds like he's going to do whatever possible to be on the Foxboro field Sunday. And who's going to hold him back? Brad Childress? Laughable. The Patriots present a good matchup for Favre, but you'll obviously have to temper expectations. It's hard to believe that his ankle won't affect him to some degree. He may not even finish the game. I don't think he's a top-12 fantasy QB this week. But at least that start streak will grow by one.
