Rams' Steven Jackson undergoes finger surgery; status uncertain for week 8

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson @sj39 went under the knife Monday. He had finger surgery to repair a crack in his left ring finger, which he suffered during Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay. Two pins were placed in the digit. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday that he considers Jackson questionable to play in week eight against the Carolina Panthers. But Jackson, via his Twitter account, played down the severity of the operation. "It has been a busy day," Jackson tweeted. "Yes, I had surgery on my ring finger but I shouldn't miss a beat. I'm not married so I'm covered there too."

Fantasy Analysis:

Love the sense of humor. Jackson has played through much more concerning injuries than a bum left finger. It's not his ball-carrying hand, so it shouldn't greatly affect his running. And do you remember how Jackson survived week four's game against Seattle? Dealing with a very strained groin, he competed with the help of at least three layers of protective wrapping and padding and still got it done, recording 124 yards from scrimmage on 25 carries. The Panthers provide a nice matchup for Jackson, one in which 100 total yards should be reached. But if he can't play because of some really odd setback, Kenneth Darby would see the most carries out of the Rams' backfield.
