Vikings' Brett Favre has two fractures in left ankle

Here's something that could certainly jeopardize Brett Favre's consecutive streak that doesn't involve inappropriate photos or the words "Jenn Sterger." Favre has two fractures in his surgically repaired left ankle. The announcement was made by Vikings head coach Brad Childress on Monday. An MRI revealed that Favre has an avulsion fracture and a stress fracture in the ankle. He said Favre will not undergo surgery. Instead, the 41-year-old QB will move around in a walking boot for the time being. His status for Sunday's game against the Patriots is unknown. "Once he's functional he can play," Childress said of Favre. "... I wouldn't rule anything out in terms of the end of the week. I don't really have a time framework on it." Childress said Favre's record of 291 consecutive regular-season games played will not impact his decision of whether or not he'll play Sunday. Favre, who threw three interceptions during Sunday night's loss to Green Bay, spent some of the night limping and hoping around on one foot after aggravating the ankle on a play that resulted in a pick.

Fantasy Analysis:

You get an avulsion fracture when a tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of bone. Mmm, that sounds comfy. Tentatively mark Favre down as questionable to play this week, but he certainly won't be 100 percent for the rest of the season and I personally don't think he can play right now. The Patriots don't sport a fearsome defense, but I don't think the Vikings, in a must-win game, can afford to have an extremely gimpy Favre out there, doing his usual chuck-and-duck routine. Tavaris Jackson is the primary backup, which is not good news for Randy Moss @DaRealOtisMoss or Percy Harvin @Percy_Harvin. He is not better than a healthy Favre in any aspect other than mobility. But Favre is a long, long, long way from healthy and his current mobility makes Kerry Collins look spry.
