Jaguars' David Garrard will not play Sunday; Todd Bouman to start?
Five years removed from his last NFL regular-season action, Todd Bouman may be a team's No. 1 option at quarterback this weekend. The Jacksonville Jaguars have ruled out David Garrard
due to his concussion and Trent Edwards is listed as questionable because of what the Associated Press is calling a "badly" sprained thumb on his throwing hand. If he's not ready, Bouman would get the call against the Kansas City Chiefs. He took the majority of first-team snaps in Friday's practice. Bouman, 38, last played in a NFL game in 2005 when he started three games for the New Orleans Saints. Jags wideouts have liked what they've seen from the veteran in practice.
"I'm overly impressed, very impressed," Mike Sims-Walker said. "Todd's been throwing the ball like he's been in this offense for three, four years now. He looked better than I ever expected. He had a great week of practice. We've just got to rally around him and adjust to how he calls plays and runs the offense."
Head coach Jack Del Rio said he expects Garrard to be cleared early next week and be able to practice. He didn't practice at all this week. Del Rio also said Edwards was limited in practice today, but he was able to grip and throw the ball despite the thumb sprain. Edwards will be a game-time decision, the only man standing in front of Bouman's return to the NFL stage.
Fantasy Analysis:
Who knows what we're going to get out of Bouman. It's not great news for Mike Thomas, Sims-Walker or Maurice Jones-Drew, but you can't say it kills their stock for week seven either. He may surprise us. You are going to start MJD, but it's probably better to be play it safe with all other Jaguars (in other words, put them on your bench) until Garrard returns or Bouman proves something. The Kansas City defense remains a very nice add.
