Frerotte named Vikings starting QB for Week 3...and beyond
Following an 0-2 start and the offense struggling to find the end zone, the Vikings are sending 25-year old Tarvaris Jackson
to the bench and promoting 15-year veteran Gus Frerotte to the starting lineup for the rest of the season according to head coach Brad Childress.
"I'm just not seeing right now the aggressiveness from Tarvaris that I saw throughout the off-season, training camp, the two preseason games that he played in," Childress said. "And part of it may be experience. I know Gus will give us that. And I know his approach will also lend itself to that."
The Vikings have a powerful ground game and stellar lines on both sides of the ball, but were severely lacking in the passing game. Frerotte will not be a cure-all, but he has always thrown a grown deep ball and he can be a QB2 in the right matchups. His presence should also make Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice viable fantasy options and help loosen up the running lanes for Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor.
