Sunday morning inactives, week 3: Peyton Hillis, Arian Foster, etc.
Another week, another boatload of big names on the injury report. I'll be here until the early kickoffs to give you the latest information on such banged-up stars as Arian Foster
, Knowshon Moreno
, Michael Vick
and others.
Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis
is inactive for week three. He's been sick for the past few days with strep throat and, according to the Akron Beacon-Journal, "did not look well at all" in the locker room this morning. Montario Hardesty
will start in his place against the Dolphins.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is active and starting today against the Carolina Panthers. He's been out of action since week one because of a calf injury and told FOX Sports' Jay Glazer that he is "hurting."
Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers A.J. Green and Jerome Simpson and both active and today against San Francisco. Green had been bothered a bit by a toe injury while Simpson missed practice time during the week to deal with some legal issues, to put it vaguely. Simpson will not start. Andre Caldwell will start in his place.
Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is inactive because of his hamstring injury. Roll with Ben Tate against the New Orleans Saints; he should be a big producer.
As expected, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is active for today's game against the New York Giants. He practiced on Thursday and Friday and seems to be over his concussion You're not really going to bench him, are you?
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin is active despite missing some practice time because of a stomach bug.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is good to go today against the Minnesota Vikings. He's been bothered by an ankle injury for a couple of weeks now, but it hasn't kept him out of action.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson is active for today's game versus the New England Patriots despite a groin injury.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree will play today against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, according to beat reports, his snap count will be very limited.
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt is active today. So is teammate Chris Johnson. Britt's hamstring was of some issue earllier this week while Johnson had bruised ribs.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had his ankle in a boot earlier this week. But he'll start against Jacksonville.
Broncos Knowshon Moreno and Brandon Lloyd are both active for today's game versus Tennessee. Lloyd was listed as probable because of a groin injury that kept him out of action last week. Moreno has been working with hamstring injury.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore is actiive. He has missed time this season because of a groin injury.
The list of players who were ruled out prior to Sunday morning includes: Giants WR Mario Manningham, Raiders WR Jacoby Ford, Ravens WR Lee Evans, Cowboys WR Miles Austin, Broncos WR Eddie Royal, Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez and Texans RB Derrick Ward.
Fantasy Analysis:
Hillis not playing today is fairly surprising. But he's obviously very ill. So Hardesty will start against the Dolphins after the Browns' coaches had already said they would like to get him more work in the offense anyway. He's coming off of ACL surgery from 2010, but with a full load of carries, he's got to be at least flex-worthy in 12-team leagues.
With a new QB installed for the Jags and a calf injury that is still nagging him, Lewis is not worth putting in your lineups. Tight end is deep enough this year that you can find a better, healthier fill-in.
A.J. Green is a fantastic WR3 today against that Niners pass defense. Simpson will probably see limited snaps, so I wouldn't start him.
Tate is probably a low-end RB1 today. It's hard to argue against that with how good he has looked in two games. Get him in all of your lineups. Steve Slaton will back him up.
Vick will have a huge game today against that pitiful Giants secondary. Start him with confidence.
Harvin's snap count has been the topic of conversation lately. But to keep up with the Lions, the Vikings will need him on the field. He's boom-or-bust, but as a WR3, you could do worse.
Calvin Johnson ... yeah, I think he's a decent start today. Just sayin'.
Steve Johnson has a very nice matchup today against New England's secondary. He'll see a lot of attention, but he should also see a lot of targets.
Crabtree should stay on your bench, far away from your starting lineup. Who knows when his feet will allow him to play at full speed again?
You know to start Britt and CJ2K -- even though he probably doesn't deserve that nickname any longer. They won't be limited against the Denver Broncos. Britt has an extremely easy matchup since Broncos DB Champ Bailey is inactive.
I can't say that Newton will throw for 400 yards again, but he's definitely a low-end QB1 against the Jaguars.
Lloyd's an easy start. Moreno, on the other hand, is not. It's already been reported that Willis McGahee will get the majority of the carries today versus Tennessee. Moreno should remain on your bench.
Moore could be a decent WR3 if you need a guy. The Texans-Saints game should be a high-scoring affair.
