Raiders WR Louis Murphy targeting week 3 return after sports hernia surgery
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy
was ruled out for this Monday's game against the Denver Broncos about three weeks ago when he underwent surgery for a groin injury that was later disclosed to be a sports hernia. Murphy said Friday that he is on the comeback trail and hoping to be ready in time for the team's home-opening game versus the New York Jets on Sept. 25.
"If I could go to Buffalo (on Sept. 19), then that would be good," Murphy told the Contra Costa Times. But if not, we'll try to shoot for that home opener."
Fantasy Analysis:
Murphy has been the Raiders' leading wide receiver for the past two years. He caught 41 passes for 609 yards and two touchdowns last season. When he returns, he will add to a nice little crop of receivers in Oakland that has a lot of potential. However, I don't think Murphy will be more valuable in fantasy than Jacoby Ford. He's someone to stash on your bench and plug in when you're in a lot of bye-week trouble.
