Packers RBs Ryan Grant, James Starks will split carries Thursday
Maybe it's just a one-week plan. But for Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints, the Green Bay Packers will give an equal split of the reps to running backs Ryan Grant
and James Starks
.
"They're both going to take pretty much all situations in the game," running backs coach Jerry Fontenot said of Grant and Starks. "Evenly dispersed? I can't guarantee it. But I'm certainly going try to get each one of those guys an equal amount of opportunities to carry the football, to hold onto the football and to control the clock for us."
Fantasy Analysis:
All of this is being done to see who can handle/who deserves more carries later on in the season. I guess the Packers didn't have enough time to figure that out during training camp ...? The Saints' run defense isn't very strong, but a possible 50-50 split means a fantasy nightmare for owners of these backs. The matchup is good, but opportunity should trump that. And given that each of these players probably won't top 15 touches in Thursday's game, it's best advised that you either leave them on the bench or deploy one as a flex play in leagues with 12 or more teams. But I have no idea who is going to be more productive.
