Colts say Peyton Manning is doubtful to play Sunday versus Texans

The Indianapolis Colts have released a statement regarding Peyton Manning's slow recovery from neck surgery and his status for the team's season-opening game versus Houston. In short, Manning has been told to stop practicing indefinitely, and it's very likely Kerry Collins will start Sunday.
"During the last week, the rate of improvement in Peyton's rehabilitation process slowed," the team statement reads "Over the weekend, Peyton experienced soreness in his back. It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen. When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton's case from the outset. That process continues.
"As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice. His participation therefore, in Sunday's game versus Houston will likely be doubtful. We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on."

Fantasy Analysis:

The statement has apparently been taken down from the Colts' official website, so I've linked to Pro Football Talk.
And so Manning's streak of 208 consecutive games played will come to an end. From a tweet this morning by Football Outsiders' Aaron Schatz, "Last year, no NFL starter listed as doubtful actually played. No Colts player listed as doubtful has played since 2003."
The Colts described Manning's condition as "a complicated neurological recovery, the end date of which is unpredictable," This means all of you Reggie Wayne @Reggie_Wayne87 and Dallas Clark owners need to prepare for Collins this weekend and probably beyond. But I'll deal with only week one for now.
It's not as if you are going to bench those receivers in week one. The matchup is OK, and Collins still has the arm strength, if not the accuracy, to get the ball to those guys. I think those weapons will have good fantasy days because the Colts will need to throw a lot to keep up with Houston.
Austin Collie @AKCollie_17 seems to be a little uncertain to play this weekend thanks to a foot injury, but we're waiting for more news on that front.
