Report: Colts' Peyton Manning doesn't need more surgery 'as of now'
News (or at least rumors reported as news) has been flowing fast ever since a radio host in Indianapolis tweeted tonight that Peyton Manning needs more neck surgery. But ESPN's Chris Mortensen says that isn't true. At least, it's not true right now.
Mortensen wrote on Twitter tonight that Manning is getting second opinions about his slow recovery, but another procedure hasn't been planned. But Mortensen also wrote that "barring miracle," Kerry Collins will start for the Colts next Sunday against the Houston Texans.
Among other writers, NFL Network and NFL.com's Jason La Canfora tweets that the chances of Manning make a full recovery this week "seem pretty bleak." And CBS Sports' Mike Freeman has written that there is potential for "Manning to miss four or five games. Or more."
Fantasy Analysis:
OK, so not the best news in the world, not the worst either. As of now, take all of the Colts offensive weapons and downgrade them just a bit for the Houston game. However, even though the Texans' defense should be improved this season, the matchup is still good enough for players such as Reggie Wayne
, Dallas Clark, Austin Collie
, etc., to exploit it. I think all of those guys are still very starter-worthy in a 12-team league.
Collins is now a QB2 for this week. I have faith that while he won't be extremely accurate, he'll throw enough to get productive totals out of those guys.
If Manning is out for more than one game, it would obviously have an overall negative effect on this offense, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
