Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki placed on IR

It's possible the Kansas City Chiefs will be without quarterback Matt Cassel for the first week of the season, but it has now been confirmed that tight end Tony Moeaki @TonyMoeaki81 will miss the entire 2011 season. As Matt De Lima wrote here on Saturday, it's believed that Moeaki tore an ACL during the team's final preseason game. The nature of the injury is still unknown, but the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve Sunday. Leonard Pope stands to see more snaps in his absence. Moeaki registered 47 receptions for 556 yards and three touchdowns during his rookie campaign.

Fantasy Analysis:

Too bad for Moeaki, who could have been a decent TE2 this season. Pope is a big target, but his strengths are more as a blocker than a receiver. The Chiefs may add a more adept pass-catching tight end this week, but he won't have any fantasy value. This downgrades Cassel's value a little bit.
