Bears RB Matt Forte offered $15 million contract extension

Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte @MattForte22 could have 15 million new reasons to have a big 2011 season. Chicago blessed him with a three-year contract extension offer that includes $13.5 million guaranteed. At only 24 years old, this extension would keep Forte in Chicago through the 2014 season. Forte is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of this season. He is currently owed $555K for the 2011 season as a base salary.

Fantasy Analysis:

Although Forte has a mixed reputation in fantasy football, the numbers don't lie. He has the fifth most total yards since entering the league in 2008. He hasn't missed a single game (knock on wood) in those three years as well. At a position notorious for its many injuries, Forte is very reliable. In 2010, he had 1,616 total yards and nine scores. The Bears would be wise to lock him up long-term and it's unclear at this time whether Forte will accept the deal.
