Panthers WR Steve Smith dislocates finger, out up to 2 weeks
The Carolina Panthers have built a nice group of skill players to work around Cam Newton
this year, but the offense's No. 1 wide receiver will be out of action for a little while. Steve Smith
dislocated a finger on his left hand during practice Tuesday. Much like what happened to fellow wideout Andre Johnson last week, the bone broke through the skin, requiring stitches. But Smith did not break his finger and is expected to miss no more than two weeks.
Fantasy Analysis:
With Smith out for the time being, David Gettis and Legedu Naanee
have moved up the depth chart. Regardless, Smith should be back soon, perhaps before the team's second preseason game. He is still the No. 1 WR in Carolina, but with Newton or possibly Jimmy Clausen filling the role of week-one starter, his fantasy value is capped at WR3. Tight end Greg Olsen
is the receiver that interests me most in Carolina.
