Vikings think WR Bernard Berrian will have 'great year'
When you look at the current Minnesota Vikings roster, a glaring weakness should jump right out at you: This team has no wide receivers. Or rather, they have very few wide receivers who have done anything recently. Only Percy Harvin
and Bernard Berrian
caught more than 20 passes last season. Given that lack of depth, you'd think that the Vikings would be feverishly combing through the market for a wide receiver with more past success. But according to head coach Leslie Frazier ... nope.
Frazier said Friday that signing an additional wide receiver is "not our focus" at the moment, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
"We have weapons on this team that a lot of teams would love to have on their team, Pro Bowl players," Frazier said. "(Quarterback Donovan McNabb
's) not coming into a situation where the cupboard is empty at all."
And on Berrian, who was considered a popular candidate to be cut because of his $3.9 million salary this season, Frazier said he expects a "great year" out of him.
Fantasy Analysis:
Oy vey. Berrian hasn't caught a touchdown since 2008, and it's clear that he is over the hill. But from Frazier's words, it sounds like Berrian will be in the team's starting lineup this season. Either the head coach is delusional or he's just leading us along a train of thought that's not exactly sincere. I've got to think the Vikings will add a wide receiver or two before too long. If they don't, I won't have very high hopes for McNabb, and Harvin will have a tough time playing without anyone to distract defenses away from him.
