Cardinals' Beanie Wells is talking big

"This is definitely going to be my year without a doubt. This is my third year and three strikes and you're out, and I'm definitely not striking out. I am ready to tear it up. It's my time and I am ready to go out and prove that." Those are the words of Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells, who is coming off an extremely disappointing season in which he rushed for less than 400 yards in 13 games. A good portion of that failure was due to the Cardinals' dismal offense and a knee injury Wells suffered at the end of the preseason. But he sounds motivated for 2011. And the Cardinals' selection of Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams @lilsweetness34 in the second round of April's draft has further lit his fire. Wells said in a Thursday radio interview that it was "shocking" that Arizona spent such a high pick on a RB, but he's not going to let that affect him. "I just take it on as more competition and prepare the same way," Wells said.

Fantasy Analysis:

Arizona has a large stable of running backs with Wells, Williams, main 2010 starter Tim Hightower @Tim_Hightower and LaRod Stephens-Howling. Right now, Hightower is a free agent, and the duo of Wells and Williams are expected to be the team's top two runners this season. In what order is anyone's guess, but Wells is the favorite given his experience and first-round pedigree. Wells speaks as if he is preparing for the starting job, and he certainly has the talent to fill it well. But durability has been a concern with him and the Cardinals need to surround him with more offensive talent. I'll have a clearer view of Wells' fantasy stock when Arizona finds its starting QB.
