Bills want to get Lee Evans more involved
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Lee Evans
put up 1,000 yards on 63 receptions just three seasons ago. But he's been awful since then. Last year, he caught only 37 passes in 13 games. That came one year after Evans caught 44 passes in a full 16-game season. You can point to the emergence of Steve Johnson last season as one reason why Evans didn't do all that much. But people inside the Bills' organization want that to change. Specifically, Evans' current quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, wants to get more out of him.
"I'm looking to get [Evans] way more involved in the offense this year," Fitzpatrick said in a radio interview last week. "Some of the attention will go off him and he won't see the constant double-team."
Fantasy Analysis:
Johnson, a seventh-round pick from the 2008 draft, exploded onto the scene last year with 82 catches and 10 touchdowns. He caught just 12 balls in his first two NFL seasons. So I'm sure he'll see more attention from defenses all season long in 2011. But Evans didn't do much in the second half of last tear when Johnson was being noticed as the hot receiver in Buffalo. Granted, Evans was hurt for the final four weeks of the season, but he didn't catch more than three passes in any game between weeks 9-13, right as Johnson was clearly becoming Fitzpatrick's favorite target. It's nice to hear these things from Fitzpatrick, not just a coach. I mean, it's part of Ryan's job to make sure he keeps his WRs happy. But given Evans' recent seasons, you shouldn't put a ton of stock into these comments. You're better off taking a wait-and-see approach here. Evans, 30, should be a mid-round pick.
