Chad Pennington tears ACL playing basketball

Chad Pennington's body just isn't made to take physical contact any longer. The 11-year NFL vet has suffered yet another major injury, this time to his knee. Pennington tore an ACL last week while playing in a pick-up basketball game. Dr. James Andrews will perform surgery on the quarterback April 7. Pennington's career has become more known for what's kept him off the field instead of what he has done on it. Pennington has undergone four surgeries on his right (throwing) shoulder since 2004 and has played in just four games over the past two seasons because of shoulder injuries that required major surgery. Pennington's most recent shoulder injury was thought to be career-threatening, but the free agent said he would like to catch on with a team for the 2011 season. Now it looks unlikely that he'll be able to play much this year.

Fantasy Analysis:

Pennington hasn't been fantasy relevant since 2008, but I really feel bad for him. His body has betrayed him to an absurd point. Pennington has already won two Comeback Player of the Year awards in the NFL. If he gets back on the field and does anything of note after undergoing two major surgeries this offseason, he should be put into the running for a third.
