Packers' Donald Driver has no current plans to retire
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver
just won his first Super Bowl and, unlike many others before him who finally gained the brass -- or diamond -- ring shortly before calling it a career, he is coming back for more. During a Thursday radio interview, Driver said he has no plans to walk off into the sunset.
"I don't know why people have said I was going to retire," Driver said. "My goal has always been that I was going to play until I'm 40. So I'm still going to play. I feel good. I feel like I haven't lost anything."
Last season, Driver, 36, recorded his lowest totals in catches, yards, and yards per catch since 2003. His current contract, which calls for him to earn up to $5 million next season, runs through 2012.
Fantasy Analysis:
Driver's not going to openly doubt his abilities. Of course he's going to say that he hasn't lost anything, but that just isn't true. Age and numerous knee injuries have limited him. James Jones is a free agent, but the Packers have Jordy Nelson
, who's coming off a fantastic Super Bowl performance, waiting to take on a larger role. While I can't see him lasting on a roster at 40, I expect Driver to finish out his contract. For these final two years, he is just a WR3 in fantasy.
