Broncos' Demaryius Thomas ruptures Achilles' tendon
The Denver Broncos' receiving corps took another big hit Thursday when Demaryius Thomas
apparently ruptured his Achilles' tendon. The team wouldn't specify if the second-year player ruptured the tendon or partially tore it, but the Broncos tweeted Thursday night that Thomas' recovery will take six to eight months, suggesting the former.
"I have no doubt that Demaryius will overcome this setback," head coach John Fox said in a statement Thursday. "He's proven he can handle adversity and will get through this. We look forward to getting Demaryius back on the field as soon as possible."
This latest news continues a string of tough injury luck for the Georgia Tech product in his pro career. He broke a foot during a 2010 pre-draft camp and then aggravated the injury during the summer, causing him to miss the season-opening game. He missed the final six games of the season because of an ankle injury.
Thomas' injury comes just four days after Eddie Royal
underwent hip surgery, which will keep him out of action for at least three months.
Fantasy Analysis:
Royal said he hopes to be 100 percent in time for May OTAs -- if there are any -- but some others estimate he will be out for up to six months. Thomas is at risk of missing regular-season games -- if there are any. It's just an unfortunate situation for a kid who was supposed to make quite splash last season. Now we're not sure when that impact will truly materalize.
