Falcons' Tony Gonzalez not retiring in 2011
Soon after his Atlanta Falcons lost to the Green Bay Packers last weekend, Tony Gonzalez
called retiring was "a possibility." A few days later, it seems like that possibility has become very slim. Gonzalez said during Friday's edition of Jim Rome is Burning that he plans to come back for his 15th year in the league. Gonzalez, who will turn 35 next month, is coming off one of the least productive seasons of his illustrious career. His 70 catches and 656 yards were his lowest totals since 1998, Gonzalez's second season.
Fantasy Analysis:
Gonzalez also posted the worst yards per catch average of his career at 9.4. Age is certainly sending his skills into decline. All of the Falcons' top playmakers are under contract -- Matt Ryan will keep delivering Gonzalez on-target passes, Michael Turner will continue to draw safeties up into the box, Roddy White will require double teams -- so perhaps Gonzalez can see a little bit of a rebound in his stats next season. But he has no upside and it's more likely that we'll see him put up more numbers reminiscent of 2010 going forward. He's not a horrible fantasy option, but Gonzalez is about as dull as it gets when discussing top-10 fantasy tight ends for next season.
