Broncos hire former Panthers head coach John Fox

The Denver Broncos have hired John Fox to be their new head coach. Fox was selected amongst five candidates for the job and will replace Josh McDaniels, who was fired on December 6. Recently, Denver hired John Elway as chief football executive recently and said this about Fox in a prepared statement, "Coach Fox is a great fit for us not only with his coaching ability but also with his personality," Elway said in a statement. "He's coached great defenses, turned teams around and been to Super Bowls. We couldn't be more excited to have him lead our football team." Denver's last two coaches, McDaniels and Mike Shanahan, had extensive backgrounds in offense, while Fox is a former defensive coordinator and was a defensive assistant for 13 years.

Fantasy Analysis:

Fox is a solid hire. Although Carolina really struggled this year, it isn't as though Fox was the general manager of the team. There's only so much blame you can put on him with such a poor offense. In any case, I liked this glowing review by Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker,"He's had success in past, so why not here?" Fun fact: John Fox comes to Denver with the worst record in his last season as head coach before switching teams (2-14) in NFL history. But to get back on track here, Denver did have a lot of injuries in the preseason, including the league's leading pass rusher from 2009, Elvis Dumervil. With some improvement along the offensive line and in the running game, Denver isn't that far off in a very competitive AFC West.
