Illinois' Liuget headed to NFL draft
University of Illinois defensive tackle Corey Liuget has declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. Liuget had 63 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 10 QB hurries and led the team in TFLs, sacks and hurries in 2010. Liuget was one of the best at the defensive tackle position in the Big Ten, earning second-team All-Big Ten. Most recently, Liuget was very disruptive to Baylor's offense in the Texas Bowl, a game Illinois won 38-14. Liuget is one of three underclassmen from the Fighting Illini to join the Draft, including running back Mikel Leshoure and linebacker Martez Wilson.
Fantasy Analysis:
Liuget currently projects as a late-first to second round prospect. The defensive tackle position is thin this year as many of the players are "tweeners" meaning they could play defensive end or tackle. As for Liuget, there's no questioning his status as a defensive tackle. At 6'3" and 300 pounds, Liuget has really turned his game around in the last two seasons. Although he played as a true freshman, he only had four starts in 2009 after coming on strong in 2010. What he lacks in experience, he makes up for in athleticism. He gets off the ball quickly and is excellent at getting into the backfield as either a pass-rusher or run-stuffer. Liuget will need to continue getting stronger in his upper body, but he is certainly still a top prospect for this year's draft.
